For contributions to micromachined ultrasonic and opto-mechanical transducers, and high speed atomic force microscopy, Dr. Levent Degertekin received the inaugural IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonic Achievement Award during the 2014 IEEE International Symposium which was held in Chicago on September 3-6.
The IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonics Achievement award is intended for primary investigators that have contributed to the field of ultrasonics. The award candidate has an excellent track record in terms of scholarly publications, technical reports and/or inventions/patents. The award is intended to recognize the investigators for their outstanding mid-career achievements and for promoting the field of Ultrasonics. This award was named for Carl Hellmuth Hertz to honor his pivotal role as both a researcher and as an advisor to others working in the field of medical diagnostic ultrasound imaging.
Also at this conference, Degertekin's student, Toby Xu, PhD '14, won the best student paper award in the area of Ultrasonic Transducers for his paper entitled, "Improved performance CMUT-on-CMOS Devices Using ALD Hafnium Oxide Insulation Layer" (co-authored by Coskun Tekes, and F. Levent Degertekin).
