Instructors in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering have been recognized by the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) with awards that honor outstanding faculty contributions to the educational mission of Georgia Tech.
Three faculty members have received the Student Recognition of Excellence in Teaching: Annual CIOS Award. The award recognizes instructors with exceptional response rates and scores on CIOS. To qualify for the award, instructors must have at least an 85% student response rate. The CIOS score used to determine winners of the award is based on the instructor’s respect and concern for students; the instructor’s level of enthusiasm about teaching the course; and the instructor’s ability to stimulate interest in the subject matter. 2022 CIOS Award winners include:
- David Torello, Senior Academic Professional, ME 2202
- Ankur Singh, Associate Professor, BMED 3600
- Shannon Yee, Associate Professor, ME 6301
The CTL compiles the CIOS Honor Roll at the end of each semester. Instructors must have a minimum of a 70% CIOS response rate and place in the top 25% of the composite CIOS scores for each size group to be eligible. Instructors named to the Fall 2022 CIOS Honor Roll include:
- Jaime Berez, Grad Student, ME 3210
- Nico Declercq, Professor, ME 6760
- Dan Kotlyar, Assistant Professor, NRE 4210
- Karim Sabra, Professor, ME 8853
- Ankur Singh, Associate Professor, BMED 3600
- David Smith, Lecturer, ME 3180
- Michael Tinskey, Professor of the Practice, ME 8803
- David Torello, Senior Academic Professional, ME 2202
- Shannon Yee, Associate Professor, ME 6301
“I appreciate each instructor’s contributions to teaching, student success, and inclusive excellence and I look forward to celebrating their accomplishments at the annual campus-wide event in April,” said Devesh Ranjan, Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair.
The CTL promotes and supports an on-campus and online instructional community where excellence in teaching and learning is valued and where educators engage in evidence-based state-of-the-art practices that foster opportunities in which diverse students and instructors can thrive.
